Immunization

Students must have their immunization records certified by the public health department before they can register for school.

Step 1
Students must bring a copy of their immunization record certified by a qualified health professional in their own country.

Step 2

Upon arrival in Ottawa, students must go to the Ottawa Public Health office at 100 Constellation Crescent.

Step 3
Students may require further tests in order to complete the immunization. Depending on country of origin, most students will require a mantoux TB skin test. The public health department will give the student a test requirement form to bring to a clinic. A clinic will perform the test and send the results to the health department.

Step 4
Test results may take a couple of days. When completed, results will be sent to the public health department. If the results are ok, a copy of the immunization certification will be sent to the school. Otherwise the public health department will contact the student with further instructions.

Note: Clinics may charge up to $80 for a test. Immunization test requirements may be partially covered by the student health insurance plan.

Assessment

After arrival in Ottawa, all international students are assessed for Math and English language ability. The OCENET admissions coordinator will set-up an appointment for each student prior to his or her arrival in Canada. Students are asked to re-confirm their appointment upon arrival in Ottawa.

Students must bring the following items to the assessment:
• Study permit & passport

Orientation

All new students are required to attend an orientation presented by the Director and the Academic Coordinator. The orientation will be done during the assessment for high school students. Elementary student's orientation dates will be given in the student's per-arrival package.
