OISP Homestay & Custodianship Services

For the student for whom custodianship is provided through OISP’s International Student Homestay Program, Canada Homestay International (CHI) will, before the student’s departure for Canada:

1 facilitate the homestay application process and school selection, if required;
2 courier a Notarized Declaration of Custodianship upon receipt of a Notarized Parental Consent to Custodianship.
3 provide information on the homestay host family selected for the student based on the information provided in the homestay application;
4 email a welcome letter to the student’s family with orientation material on cultural adjustment and the contact information of the student’s custodian, who is available 24/7/365 in the event of an emergency;
5 arrange for the student to be met at the airport and transferred to their homestay.

On arrival and in the first month of the student’s experience in homestay, CHI will:

1 report the student’s safe arrival to the parents or agent;
2 ensure that the student is accompanied to all necessary appointments and is supported as they select courses, learn public transit, open a bank account, and access health services, etc;
3 provide an orientation to homestay, and check-in to see how the student is doing following their Academic Assessment, ensuring a second time that they know who their custodian is and how to contact them (or a member of the custodial team) 24 hours a day with any questions or concerns they may have;
4 provide them with an opportunity to evaluate their homestay experience after they have been here a month.

After the first month of the student’s experience in homestay, CHI will:

1 help the student and the host to resolve any difficulties in their relationship with each other;
2 select an alternative host and arrange and supervise a relocation if such becomes necessary;
3 participate in academic case conferences, if applicable;
4 provide Status Reports to the agent or parent on our twice-a-semester meetings with the student and our conversations with the host to see how the student is progressing;
5 consult with the agent or parent by email or phone in the event of an emergency;
6 assist with Study Permit renewal, if applicable;
7 arrange for airport transfer for the return journey.

For students returning for a second or third academic year, CHI will confirm the availability of the current host (or book a new one) and arrange airport transfers
