Director/Superintendents
Our Director of Education, Dr. Lyall M. Thomson, is both the Chief Education Officer and the Chief Executive Officer of the school district. Dr. Thomson reports directly to, and is accountable to, the Board of Trustees for the organization and operation of the District. All school district authority delegated to staff is delegated through the Director of Education.
The Director of Education has as his senior staff team (please see below for names and contact information) several Superintendents, both school and business, and together they form the senior leadership team for the school district. The team is officially known as the Director’s Executive Council and all educational, financial, school organization and facilities planning and management is developed through this leadership team for the Board of Trustees.
Our senior staff team has a wealth of educational leadership experience and in combination with our new four-year strategic plan, will be leading the District to even greater student success by implementing key actions and priorities in the following three focus areas:
Learning – Student learning is the key focus of our school district. In our learning community, we provide quality programs, supports and instructional practices that lead to success for all students and inspire lifelong learning.
Leadership - Leadership is exemplified by people who are able to impact those around them in a positive way. Our leaders are energetic, empathetic, motivated, trustworthy, knowledgeable and good communicators. Our leaders share a common vision in their commitment to all students. Our leaders understand that their role is one of support. They lead by example, they seek input, and they listen. As an organization, we encourage and foster these qualities. In challenging and prosperous times, we are defined by the relationships we build.
Community - Community is both the place where we live and the people with whom we interact. Our commitment to community recognizes that education is not the result of one child and one teacher in a classroom, but rather a community engaged in learning together. An effective community is built on a sense of trust, respect and recognition of our individual and collective responsibility, our diversity and our need to work collaboratively to ensure success for our students and our future.
