We’re building a new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school south of Innes Road at 2080 Portobello Boulevard in Cumberland. The school is set to open in September 2008. It will be able to accommodate approximately 500 students in English and Early French Immersion programs. Boundaries for the new school encompass the area bewtween Innes, Mer Bleue, Wall, and Frank Kenny.

New School Name

Thank you to everyone who submitted names for our new school. It's official, we are now called Avalon Public School.

More Schools, More Choices At The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

Parents, students and the community in Barrhaven South will have a new, state-of-the-art school to call their own in September 2009. Situated on a prime 15-acre site beside existing parkland at the northeast corner of Longfields Drive and Berrigan Drive (next to Berrigan Elementary School) the new 183,000 square foot facility will initially welcome students in grades 7-10 and eventually offer a wide choice of programs for grades 7-12.

Designed by the award-winning Ottawa architectural firm of Edward J. Cuhaci & Associates, the new school will be the first to serve grades 7-12 in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and an exciting new option for parents and students. Extensive consultative efforts between staff, community groups, academic experts and the Ministry of Education have been held to ensure that the new school offers a welcoming environment and delivers educational excellence that contributes to student success.
