The Continuing Education Department of the Ottawa-Carleton District School supports lifelong learning for all ages by offering a wide variety of courses and programs for people of all ages. Here is a quick summary of our major programs. Please click on the Program titles for more information.
Working toward your high school diploma? We offer full credit courses to adult and day school students at night and during the summer. We can also help you earn Cooperative Education credits throughout the year. If you are an adult with life experience, our Mature Student Evaluation Program can help you to achieve your academic goals.
Want to join the ballroom dancing craze? Our GI Program offers a wide variety of interest courses and workshops to the fee-paying public. Be one of the more than 12,000 people who take classes every year ranging from computers to music, from crafts and automobile repair to lifestyle management. Most courses are offered in the evening, but some are offered during the day and on Saturdays.
Did you know that your child can take group piano lessons in various OCDSB elementary schools? Or are they more interested in guitar, flute, violin, or lego® robotics? Our ECCA program offers a wide variety of classes at lunch time or after school at 28 elementary schools throughout the board.
How do you prepare to be a global citizen? Give your child the opportunity to learn a new language or to maintain the language of their heritage. In partnership with community groups, we offer classes in 43 different languages at the elementary level and 22 languages at the secondary level. Choose a language of your choice or contact us if you want to start a new language. This program is funded by the Ministry of Education and therefore there is no cost to parents.
Are you new to Canada or wanting to improve your English skills? Our Adult ESL and LINC Programs can help you. Our ESL Program offers 40 classes at 7 different sites during the day or in the evening. Our LINC program serves over 1400 people per year.
Employment Upgrading and Basic Skills
Looking for a job but have little work experience? Thinking about returning to high school? Our Employment Preparation and Upgrading Program can help you. Academic Upgrading prepares learners for high school, with an opportunity to achieve PLAR credits. Our Adaptive Learning Program offers services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Outdoor Education Centres
Our students have the unique opportunity to discover the natural environment at the Bill Mason (west end) and MacSkimming (east end) Outdoor Education Centres. Grade 3 and 7 classes participate in a free program each year as part of the OCDSB’s Every Student Attends program. In addition to Natural Science, we offer programs in Canadian History, Outdoor Skills, and Team building. Adults can also sign up for skiing classes in the winter and canoeing classes in the Spring/Summer.
