Registering your child for school is as easy as 1-2-3!
Each year we hold a kindergarten registration period in early February for parents and guardians to register four- and five-year-old children for junior and senior kindergarten at their designated public school (based upon your home address). Though we do accept student registrations throughout the school year, parents are encouraged to register children for kindergarten during this period to allow the school district sufficient time for staff and transportation planning.
Secondary students can also register with us at any time during the school year, although transferring from one school to another within our school district should be done at the time of the annual student transfer period in February. For further information, please read our
Transfer Policy.
School staff is ready to assist you - just drop in to request your registration information kit. If you have questions and concerns, please don’t hesitate to request a meeting with the school’s principal. These caring individuals are able to provide you with support, guidance, and information.
To find a designated school and educational program for your child within your home area, please use our online
School Locator.
What You’ll Need to Register Your Child
To be eligible for senior kindergarten, children must be four years old by December 31 of the year in which they are beginning school. Students enrolled in junior kindergarten do not have to re-register for senior kindergarten.
Students of all ages will need the following to register with us:

Ottawa Public Health requires proof that your child has received proper immunization. All children attending school in Ontario must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, and rubella, unless there is a valid exemption. If your child has lived or traveled outside Canada or in a First Nations/Inuit community in Canada for three months or longer during the past five years, you need to provide the school with a
Certificate of Immunization and Tuberculosis Assessment for School Entry issued by Ottawa Public Health. Call the Ottawa Public Health Immunization Program at 613-580-6744, ext. 24108 for additional information.
Ottawa Public Health no longer provides visual and auditory screening. Parents who notice their child having difficulty seeing or hearing should contact their health care provider.
Parents who are concerned about their child’s communication development before the age of five years should contact First Words at Ottawa Public Health Information, 613-580-6744, in addition to their
health care provider.
